I received my BFA from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and completed my MFA in fine art photography at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI. My working life has been spent mostly in the graphic design field. I’ve always tried to continue my fine art ventures on the side. Now I’m trying to devote more time to my art and actually start showing my past and recent work.

I was always drawn to surrealism and visuals that evoke my mind to explore. I particularly liked textured real objects that presented themselves as abstracts. Through the years, that journey brought me to my current images. I refer to them as realistic abstract photography. I began by photographing individual images of everyday objects. Textures, colors, impressions that I found in nature and in man-made objects. I took those images and layered them as a metaphoric representation of how nature and man-made objects interact with each other in both positive and negative ways. Images of organic/inorganic, nature/man-made on top of each other in a translucent and transformative manner. I wanted to use photography as a mechanical process to render a realistic, but abstract painterly effect. These images let me take a closer look at my everyday surroundings and experience them in a different and hopefully more positive manner.

I enjoy the creative process of visual connections, letting mistakes happen and making images that intrigue my imagination.

Side note: I photographed all the individual images included in the final photograph.
